Search for Words

As the pre-dawn light
Rose behind me
I watched the pearlescent orb
Slowly evolve into a buttery
Disk blushing with rising pinkness
That intensified to red
And then magenta
As it met the mists
Of the horizon
Where it sank
Into the blue violet haze
Only to emerge briefly
As a faded grayish ghost of itself
Before being eaten
By the earth itself.

So went my morning commute.

Very descriptive; I like it.

Thank you John. I enjoy the sunrises/sunsets and the moonrises/moonsets here on the plains. I see many of them - no matter the daylength. I always have a desire to describe what I see so that others can experience my impressions of it even when they can't see it. Words can never come close, but I make the attempt anyway.

I tried to get a picture of the same thing. The moon was shining bright between two post oak trees as I was waiting to meet a cowboy to go work cows. I parked my truck facing the moon just to watch it set. Absolutely stunning.

I like to get up before dawn on weekends and drive up to a gap in the mountains about three miles from my house, where I can see out into forever, and watch the sun come up. That's a great picture you got there.

Hermit: I have to admit I pirated that picture. However, it doesn't do justice to what I saw.
